Besides statues, in a rebirth of exploring my 3-D skill in polymer clay, my work with the Earth Sisters has already drawn some fun and beautiful things into my life. From eBay has come books on oil, and samples of crudes from around the world. This weekend, though, was the always-anticipated Gem Faire, with its abundance of amazing treasures. Aliria-Naptha, being the goddess not only of oil and underworld carbon but of all subterranean past-life eras (their records, and subsequent ends), was calling me back to my Geology roots, via the healing and teaching medium of fossils. Crystal work is of course adjunct to this, and fossil work is merely one aspect of spiritual work with stones and energy.
"One for the road!" Whose altar has pieces of gooey asphalt on it? The goddess of crude oil's, of course! Dirty gummy grubby road tar is perfectly natural in this mythos.
My altar space for Gaia and Aliria is already pretty crowded, so of course it's time to add some more rocks. Clearly I'm in a "manifesting" phase, what with the gathering of trinkets, rocks, and other goodies, the making of statuary, and the urge to both draw and write about oil-related topics, and frankly I see this as a positive sign.
I still tend to keep this specific altar covered up: I have learned that I don't like certain people's eyes all over my shit, because they can't have the relationship with Aliria that I do. It's also an instinctive reaction against feeling judged and, particularly, when I have basically zero personal space. I can't wait until the day I once again have no one else barging in on me, don't have to share rooms, don't have to listen to any housemates fucking or their sodding children throwing tantrums, etc. Really, really feeling done with that. The upshot is, I now have a wee bit of money with which to move on in the first place!
Oghams I drew on June 26. I'm trying to make divination a regular, if not daily, practice, especially since I now have so many wonderful methods! I still feel rather awkward at defining and asking questions in my mind regarding divination, so I can only assume regular practice will make me better at this, too.
Still the Slytherin, I couldn't resist this beautiful cobra! Only question now is, how to wear it.
I returned from the Gem Fair with lots of beautiful things that called to me in my work with Aliria and Gaia: fossils, trilobite, ammonites, stromatolites, and several other stones that strongly carry the power of Earth's fire, including fire opal and amber. I especially love how the amber feels on my skin, and the play of fiery light in both stones is magnificent.
Another, very unusual "Alirian" rock is Shungite, recently come to attention for its healing and purifying properties. Shungite is almost pure (98%) carbon, and it's biogenic or organic, subterranean carbon, which is Aliria-Nafta's province; it's made from a process cousin to that of coal or petroleum. But like other fossil energy blends, it has a unique fingerprint found only one spot on Earth, in this case in Russia. What makes Shungite special is its structure, made of carbon C60 molecules shaped like soccer balls, called fullerenes: these have water-purifying and other benefits. So this will be a nifty crystal to work with.
On June 12th, I scored an unusual wooden edition of precious things: a bag of little carved oil drums, of the 55-gallon type my dad has always had squatting on our property somewhere. They'll be useful for something, if only as art or demonstration. Example: an average U.S.A. dweller driving an average car uses at least thirteen barrels of crude (actually 42 gal. apiece) a year, about how many are in here. I guess I'm easily drawn to the energy of wood and rocks!
